Episode 76: Elizabeth Rose - Leeds Festival of Gothica

Artwork by Johnny Cosmic

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed chatting with Elizabeth! I learned so much!

Elizabeth is the Lead Coordinator of Leeds Festival of Gothica. She tells me all about 1980s Leeds being at the forefront of the alternative and goth scene.

I also learn about the Sophie Lancaster Foundation and the great work they do; about the Batwings mural in Kirkgate Market and about the Leeds Alternative Market.

There's an archive on the Leodis website where anyone can upload photos of flyers or nights out in Leeds that represent the city's alternative scene. Link below. The Alternative Heritage of Leeds Project partnered Leeds Festival of Gothica with Leeds Libraries and Leodis by Leeds Libraries to create an archive. It has some incredible submissions from photographs, gig tickets to set lists and you can uplaod your own photgraphs from pre the year 2000..

Elizabeth chose to feature the track "Snake Dance" by The March Violets.

The next Alternative Market takes place at Kirkgate Market on Saturday, 1st July, 2023.
